MCCCI Hosts Mozambican Investors for Factory Visit at NASFAM

The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) on Friday facilitated a factory visit for a delegation of Mozambican investors at the National Smallholder Farmers Association of Malawi (NASFAM), one of its Platinum members.

The visit aimed to provide the investors with a deeper understanding of Malawi’s manufacturing landscape and explore potential trade and investment opportunities.

NASFAM, a key player in Malawi’s agricultural sector, showcased its diverse product portfolio, including Rice, Beans, Groundnuts, Sorghum, Soya porridge and Chili.

The organization demonstrated its successful model of working with smallholder farmers to aggregate produce for value addition, supplying raw materials to manufacturing companies, and producing high-quality animal feed.

Speaking during the visit, NASFAM Chief Executive Officer Dr. Betty Chinyamunyamu, expressed appreciation for MCCCI’s role in facilitating the engagement.

“This visit has provided an excellent opportunity for our Mozambican counterparts to witness firsthand the potential for collaboration in agro-processing and trade. We look forward to strengthening partnerships that will benefit both nations,” she said.

The Mozambican delegation, which included representatives from the Ministry of Economy (Trade), Mozambique Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX), agro-processing firms, mining, manufacturing, trade directors from various provinces, and tourism, also participated in a private sector engagement luncheon meeting.

On her part, MCCCI Director of Membership Development Wezi Mungoni emphasized the significance of the visit in advancing Malawi’s export readiness.

“MCCCI is committed to ensuring that Malawian products meet international standards, making them competitive in global markets. Standardization is key in our pursuit of export-worthy products, and we continue to support local farmers in adopting best practices that enhance quality and sustainability,” she stated.

She further highlighted MCCCI’s dedication to empowering smallholder farmers, particularly women entrepreneurs, by providing them with access to markets, training, and investment opportunities.

Supporting local farmers, especially women, is central to our mission. Their contribution to agro-processing and manufacturing is invaluable, and we are working to create an enabling environment that fosters their growth and participation in regional trade,” she added.
