The Council

The Council

A Council of the Confederation is established by its constitution clause 9.1. It is responsible for directing the affairs of the Confederation, on behalf of the membership. The specific responsibility of the Council include the following:

  1. Determining the Confederation’s strategy to achieve its purposes;
  2. Guiding the implementation of that strategy by the Secretariat;
  3. Monitoring the overall performance of the Secretariat and ensuring that the Secretariat has the capacity to deliver the purpose and strategy of the Confederation; and
  4. Ensuring that procedures and practices are in place that protect and promote the Confederation’s reputation.

The Council shall be composed of a President, Deputy President, and 9(nine) other Councillors elected in accordance with this clause.

The following are Councillors serving the tenure 2024 to 2026.

Ronald Ngwira

President

Mr. Ronald Ngwira is a seasoned agribusiness executive with over 30 years of leadership experience in Malawi’s agricultural sector, currently serving as Managing Director of Illovo Sugar Malawi, leading two mills and a vertically integrated sugar business end to end. Previously Managing Director of Pyxus Agriculture Malawi, overseeing a diversified portfolio including seed production, peanut processing, timber, and agricultural extension. Formerly held senior leadership roles at Alliance One Tobacco Malawi, including Leaf Production Director and Country Agronomist, with extensive experience in contract farming, compliant leaf production and smallholder out grower systems.

Dr. Dorothy Chapeyama

Deputy President

Dr. Dorothy Chapeyama is a Chartered Insurer and highly respected executive with over three decades of leadership in the insurance and financial services sector. She is the current Chief Executive Officer and Co‑Founder of Reunion Insurance Company Limited, where she has driven growth, innovation, and sound governance. An Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK), she holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy and an Executive MBA from the University of Malawi, complemented by extensive regional and international executive training. Dorothy currently serves as President of the Insurance Association of Malawi and is Country Director for the Africa Insurance Women Association (AIWA), championing inclusion and leadership development across Africa’s insurance sector. Beyond her executive responsibilities, she has previously served as Councillor for the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and is the current Chairperson of the National Girls Education Trust, reflecting her commitment to governance, education, and social impact.

Dr. Lillian Moyo

Dr. Lillian Moyo is a distinguished executive with over 23 years of leadership in the financial services industry, spanning life insurance, pensions, micro-insurance, donor-funded programs, microfinance, and banking. She is the Managing Director of Vanguard Life Assurance Company Limited, where she leads a turnaround strategy focused on sustainable growth, profitability, and organizational resilience. A Chartered Insurer (ACII, UK), she holds a Doctor of Business Administration from Exploits University, an MBA, and a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from the University of Malawi, complemented by advanced training with the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK), London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the ILO International Training Centre. Her career includes senior roles at NICO Life Insurance, NICO Pension Services, Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives, INDE Bank, Cowater International, and Vanguard Life Assurance Company.

Steveria Kadangwe

Ms. Steveria Kadangwe is a seasoned leader in the energy industry, with over 26 years of professional experience, including 18 years in senior leadership roles across the fuel sector. She has assumed both country-level and regional responsibilities in Malawi, Ghana, South Africa, Myanmar, and Singapore, and has operated across more than twenty-five nations throughout Africa and the Asia Pacific, steering multicultural teams and overseeing a broad range of business functions. Ms. Kadangwe currently serves as Managing Director of Puma Energy Malawi, overseeing the operations of the company and delivering strong performance and profitability. Prior to her return to Malawi in July 2025, she served as Deputy General Manager within Puma Energy Ghana’s business entities. She also holds a directorship at Petroleum Importers Limited. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Malawi and a Master of Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University and is presently enrolled in a cohort of the Executive Development Program at Stellenbosch Business Institute.

Mr. Adil Chilungo

Mr. Adil Chilungo is a dynamic Malawian entrepreneur and consultant who has successfully steered his ventures from small to medium enterprise level within five years by leveraging local resources. As Managing Director of ICT and Local Development Consultancy Ltd and CEO of Islamic Finance Consultancy Limited, he leads initiatives in both organic agriculture and Islamic finance. His academic background includes a Master of Public Administration from University Malaya and a Bachelor in Political Science and Islamic Economics from the International Islamic University Malaysia, complemented by project management certification from New York. He has held senior roles in government finance, chaired CONGOMA, lectured in Malawi and Uganda, and consulted widely on strategic planning and revenue mobilization.

Steve Lwanda

Mr. Steve Lwanda is an accomplished finance and management professional with over two decades of senior leadership experience across tourism, consulting, and corporate governance. Previously, he has served as  Managing Director of ANL Holdings Limited, where he developed ventures in the tourism and leisure sector, and has previously held executive roles including Chief Financial Officer at Tourism KwaZulu‑Natal, Director of Management Assurance Services at Ndugu Consulting, Chief Financial Officer at Johannesburg Tourism Company, and Finance and Administration Manager for South African Tourism in England. A graduate of the University of Malawi and the University of Strathclyde, Scotland (MBA Finance), Mr. Lwanda has built expertise in financial management, auditing, risk and assurance services, corporate governance, and strategic planning.

Goodwin Sam Ng’oma

Mr. Godwin Sam Ng’oma is a certified leadership and change management coach, a corporate governance trainer of trainer, a specialist in economic policy management, programmes and projects management, policy designing and analysis, proficient learning and development management, certified management consultant, lecturer in business management studies and HR fellow.  He has over 20 years of professional experience in all fields of consultancy, project management, general management, business finance, economics, research and consultancy. Goodwin is also a Lecturer of Business Management. Currently, he is working at Coca-Cola Beverages Malawi. Goodwin holds a Master of Arts Degree in Economic Policy Management, Master of Science Degree in Project Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Management studies and a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a major in Management.

Eng. Dr. Peter Matipwiri

Eng. Dr. Peter Matipwiri is a seasoned technical and managerial leader with over 15 years of senior experience in operations management, particularly in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and infrastructure development sector. He has held multiple senior leadership positions locally and internationally on both public and donor‑funded projects, bringing extensive expertise in managing complex, large‑scale operations. He is the founder and Managing Director of PBM Construction and PBM Consultants, which delivers sustainable, cutting‑edge solutions for the WASH sector. Previously, he served as Country Manager for World Vision Malawi’s $26 million WASH program, Project Manager for World Vision Southern Africa’s WASH Project Management initiative, Chief of Party for Scott Wilson International in Mozambique, and Water and Infrastructure Development Manager for the Clinton Foundation in Malawi. Renowned as a skilled marketer, donor engagement strategist, public speaker, and advocate for child well‑being, Dr. Matipwiri combines technical acumen with visionary leadership to advance sustainable infrastructure and WASH solutions across Africa.

Duncan McDavid

Mr. Duncan McDavid is an accomplished chief executive and finance professional with over 20 years of leadership experience across investment banking and agribusiness
in Africa and global financial centers. As CEO of Jacoma
Estates Limited, he has driven transformative growth,
expanding orchards eightfold, increasing exports
ninefold, and securing landmark investments from
international partners. He also serves as Managing
Director of Tropha Estates Limited, where he has
overseen large-scale macadamia development and built
strong relations with government and local communities.
Beyond corporate leadership, Duncan has contributed
to industry and sport, serving as Vice Chairman of the
Malawi Macadamia Association and representing South
Africa in rowing at the U23 World Cup. He is recognized for
resilience, financial acumen, and operational excellence
in complex frontier markets.

Mackson Ng'ambi

Mr. Mackson Ng’ambi is a corporate executive with 11 years’ experience in Project Management, Strategic Business Administration, Accounting Financial Reporting, Auditing and Financial Management. He is currently the acting Chief Executive Officer of Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union, commonly called Mzuzu Coffee having arisen from Accountant, Internal Auditor and Chief Finance Officer within the organization. Mackson is a holder of a Master’s Degree in Finance, Management obtained from Amity University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, and Finance obtained from Blantyre International University.

With over 22 years of experience living and working in Africa, Mr. Keys has cultivated a positive multicultural work culture, strengthened HQ‑field relations, and earned a reputation as a bridge‑builder across continents. He has engaged at the highest levels with presidents, ministers, UN agency heads, ambassadors, and senior officials, while consistently attracting, retaining, and developing top talent. His career reflects a proven ability to deliver clean audits, balanced budgets, and sustainable growth, coupled with exceptional representational skills and deep commitment to empowering local organizations. Currently, Mr. Keys serves as Business Advisor at Kwithu Kitchen, a women-owned food-processing cooperative located in Northern Malawi.
